Wild Rose Cleanse - RESULTS and DORITOS

It was in the back of my mind for a while, the fact that I didn't finish my posts throughout my entire cleanse. Day 8 or 9 I had a little set back. Being stressed out to the max because of personal issues I broke down and ate a half bag of Doritos. Yes, I'll admit it. I'm not proud that I didn't make it 100% through the second time on the cleanse. It just shows though that I am human and when you need something you will reach just about for anything. It was the only bad food in the house and I was "saving" it for my road trip for after my cleanse.

I learned two things while "cheating" on a cleanse. One, I learned the quick affects of eating something bad after cleansing my body for 9 days. Secondly, when pushed to the max emotionally I will reach for something to comfort me.

The day after eating the Doritos I was irritable, cranky, tired and felt sick. I don't know what sort of chemicals are in that food but they are strong and I didn't really realize what effect they had on my body. It's pretty neat to experience. I'm glad I ate those Doritos in a way. Experimenting with your body and foods is eye opening and I recommend this to anyone.

Day one off my cleanse and I celebrated with a thin crust spinach and artichoke pizza. I continued to eat very healthy and clean for the next oh lets say 12 hours. On the road to Edmonton it was really hard to find any place that served "clean" food. I broke down and went to Mc Donald's, even though I didn't want to I ignored my better judgment. For the first time EVER I couldn't finish my Big Mac. I ate half the burger and half the fries. Even my daughter couldn't eat her's. (I didn't give her any fast food the whole time on my cleanse and so she was not interested in it either!). That is a plus!

During the next week at our families I had a really hard time. I wasn't preparing my own clean food anymore. I had to eat what was available and served. I noticed I quickly became more tired, less energy, my mood was changing. By the 4th day I had another stomach pain attack like I use to get before going on my cleanse. While on the cleanse I didn't have one stomach pain!

So now I've been home for 2 days and I'm slowly incorporating eating clean again into my routine. I feel like I have the knowledge and the mind set to keep doing this and It feels so good.

RESULTS:

I lost 10 pounds and a total of 7 inches!

I gained a few back but I plan to keep up with eating clean and start to exercise everyday.

I think the more you know the more you are willing to try. Make better choices in regards to food and a cleanse twice a year feels great!

Wild Rose Cleanse - Day ATE oops, I mean 8 :)

As I realize that it is already day 8 of my cleanse I find myself scared that it will soon come to an end. How stupid is that??? I'm like in food rehab and I'm afraid to go home after being locked up for 12 days! Isn't it funny?

I will admit the first time and only other time on this cleanse I did it right before Canada Day. There were a lot of festivities going on and a lot of BAD food. I started with a Canada Day breakfast. It consisted of eggs, sausage and one pancake. I had two bites of the pancake and that was it. It was disgusting! Normally I would have devoured it! I thought, it's ok I'll come back to eating some BAD foods slowly as your suppose to do. Well, next was the car show. I knew there would be mini donuts there. I was hoping they would be there. AND secretly I was gonna eat a whole bag! I've been looking forward to those lil mini's for a WHOLE year!! I shared a bag with my family, and felt SICK! I do NOT recommend you do this. They were very tasty but my body didn't know how to handle all that flour and sugar. After this I'm pretty sure I ate everything bad you can imagine. lol

SO, you can see why I am a little anxious to get "off" my cleanse. This time when i am done my cleanse I will be with family I haven't seen in a while and we will be enjoying a grand Christmas FEAST. I'm really curious to see how I do at maintaining this clean diet. I would like to maintain it 80% of the time and have a little bit of the sweet stuff 20%. Maybe I should work on my mind because I need will power to do that.

Breakfast:

2 hard boiled Eggs, Coffee and water.

Lunch:

Half an apple sliced up enjoyed with a dollop of Almond Butter. If you have never tried Almond Butter I highly recommend it. It's super delicious and healthier than peanut butter and it goes with everything!

Left over Yam fries dipped in home aid Hummus. This is a great substitution for eating them with Mayo which is what I normally do.

Dinner:

Salmon, Green Beans and more Yam Fries with Hummus.

Wild Rose Cleanse - Day SeVeN

It seems like day seven is the day where I feel most normal. By that I mean, I don't feel sick anymore or heavy. I feel light and refreshed. I feel like I don't have much of a "I NEED FOOD NOW OR I'M GONNA DIE!!!" feeling. In fact, I don't have much appetite at all, except when it's getting close to the time I would be eating. I still crave chocolate. I'm learning that I don't need it.

Breakfast:

2 hard boiled eggs, black coffee and water.

Lunch:

A Ginormous Romaine lettuce salad with black bean salad thrown on top with the last bit of my home aid Cesar salad dressing.

Snack:

Almonds and Green Tea.

Dinner:

The rest of my home-aid Chili. It was so yummy!

DAY SIX - HALF WAY!!!

It doesn't seem to matter what I do. I want SWEETS!!! I suppose a cleanse during the holiday season was kinda dumb. I find myself wanting to do some baking like every time around this time of year. I can't bring myself to do that. I'm the type of person who needs to eat the cookie dough. AND I mean, who doesn't? SHOOT!

The fact that I am mostly cooking for myself has it's advantages and disadvantages. First, there are ALOT of left overs. This is fantastic because I don't have to spend too much time cooking. I usually pre-pare large portions so I can do this. Since my 8 year old is a very picky eater and has to always have more sauce on her food than the food itself, I've been finding this a challenge. I'm not crazy in making two separate meals everyday. I personally don't agree with this way of parenting. I know there are parents out there who do this everyday. I think that if it's good healthy food the child should eat the same thing as the rest of the family. SOMETIMES, I break this rule if I know she is going to hate the food. I also bend the rule sometimes. Like the other night when I had salmon for dinner. That didn't go over well with her. She was NOT having it. This is a normal occurrence at dinner time and frankly it gets old FAST. To remedy the situation I decided to fool her into eating the same dinner but pre-pared a different way. She was going to eat the SALMON! I made her a brown rice bowl and cut up the salmon and green beans so small that she would have to eat it but she would barely taste it. I topped it off with a bit of soya sauce. SHE ate it UP!!! Success!! So when it comes to little people you want to keep introducing the same food to them just dress it a little differently.

SO, day 6 marks the half way point. I wish it was over! BUT I did survive the worst of it. GOOD for ME!!! I can do the healthy way of eating. I have a MEAT tooth and a SWEET tooth. Deadly combination. Since I can have meat but its limited to 20% of my consumption that is hard. Sweets are out of the question. The hardest time for me is at night. Usually I would sit in front of the screen and watch a movie finish a big size chocolate bar and go to the cupboard and fridge more times than I can count. You mean, there's still nothing to eat in here??? Last night was the first night since this cleanse that I decided I would watch a movie. The entire movie I was thinking about chocolate! I couldn't stand it anymore! I decided to make some popcorn with butter. I sprinkled it with cinnamon. It wasn't nearly fulfilling my desire for sugar. Than I felt guilty for eating after 8 pm. Oh well, you can't blame me for trying and I still haven't cheated!!! I did however, spend a long time on All Recipe's looking at cookies. DAMIT!

Breakfast:

A blueberry/Raspberry, Almond milk, flax smoothie. (which btw makes your whole mouth blue). Black coffee and lots of H2O.

LUNCH:

scrambled eggs with chives. Water. Handful of almonds.

Dinner:

Chilli from scratch. I need my meat so I through in a piece of cut up Chicken Breast. It was delish! Water.

Snack:

popcorn

on a side note. I've lost 6 pounds so far. I feel lighter. AND, i love to notice the little differences. My teeth feel so incredably clean!

Day 1,2,3,4 and FIVE!

This morning I woke up and I felt like myself. I felt pretty good. Day Five is treating me good. It's about TIME! Last night I was so out of sorts. I had a mini emotional freak out. Day Four was by far the hardest.

Today I felt so good that I went on a long walk with the dogs, power walking the whole time.

Breakfast:

Coffee, of course, 2 hard boiled eggs and a few apple slices. Pretty boring.

Lunch:

I was out at Wal-mart today. And my first stop was the BAKERY. Yes, the bakery :( I slowly walked thru scanning all the baked goods that I couldn't have. It smelled SOOO good! I stopped at the freshly baked cinnamon buns topped with cream cheese icing. I picked up the package and inspected it. I thought, "If I got these I wouldn't have to have one now, I could Freeze them!". Then I came to my senses and put them down and continued on through the rest of the Bakery. I DIDN"T SUCOME TO TEMPTATION! Well, I did consider it but I was a good girl and so headed over to the produce section. This IS how hard it is for me. I don't know about anyone else out there who does cleanses all the time or those who are athletic or even those on a diet. If they tell you it's easy, THEY LIE!

Oh wow, I was getting to what I ate for lunch and then I told you my wal-mart experience. Such a woman! So, when I was shopping it was lunch time. I was hungry. I only bought good things and then a few things for my family to eat. I was craving my left over black bean salad for lunch. The Lettuce wrap I made was a mess so I thought I could make the same thing but in a bowl like a salad! What a clever idea!!! (ding ding ding!) So, ya that's what I did. A Giant bowl with romaine lettuce, black bean salad, the last of the guacamole and a cut up chicken breast with a tad of left over Cesar salad dressing I made the other night. This left over business sure makes it easy to make fast food! I mean food in a jiffy! (ummm fast food...ummm big mac......)

Dinner:

Fresh Wild Salmon, Yam Fries with nutmeg on top (gonna miss my side of mayo), and sauteed green beans.

A note on the Cookbook. Going through it there seems to be a lot of really yummy recipes in it but most of it is stuff I've never made in my life! Maybe when I feel more energetic I'll try something new from it. I grew up on things like Kraft Dinner, PB&J, Pork Chops, Dumplings and Spaghetti. Don't get me wrong my mother was a fantastic cook but it was heavy food. Now, I'm trying a simpler, lighter healthier way of eating. Trying to raise my daughter this way, it's hard with how bad food has become and the fact that she is so picky. My husband has been my biggest inspiration to eat better. He's an athlete and he's my hero for sure. He really makes me want to live healthier. If it weren't for him I'd still be eating Kraft Dinner right out of the pot weekly. I still recommend getting the cookbook because it gives you even more details about what is acceptable on the program and what is not.

My one tip from my husband that I want to share with everyone. If you could only do one thing everyday to gain strength do the "PLANK". Seriously if you try it I bet you can only stay there for like 5 seconds. GIVE IT A TRY! Now, maybe I should follow my own advice ;)

Wild Rose Cleanse - Day 4

Still feeling very tired. No energy. There must be a LOT of toxins circulating and exiting! Exiting for sure ! haha one of the herbs that they give you is a laxative. No need to say anymore.

Breakfast:

Tryin to play it up everyday so today I had a bowl of Oatmeal (of course OATS only, no wheat or flour) with blueberries and a splash of almond milk. A dash of ground up flax seed. WOW, that sounded healthy. It was pretty good and that's only because I've gotten use to the taste. No lies here! The "only Oats" I bought at Natures Fair. You might be able to find them in the natural food isle in Superstore.

Lunch WAS AWESOME!

I took two GIANT pieces of romaine lettuce and slapped it on a plate. Next I added some left over delicious guacamole right on top of the lettuce. THAN, I added freshly baked chicken breast and layed it gently on top. Finally, I made some black bean salad and threw that on top of the chicken. I looked at my beautiful plate full of yumminess and thought, "how the fuck am I gonna get that in my mouth!!??" I used a knife and fork! That sucker could NOT be rolled. It was suppose to be a "lettuce wrap" so they call them. I got a few really sweet photos of the steam coming off of the chicken. Check it

Dinner:

By the time dinner rolled around I had no desire to eat. This is so strange to me because usually this is my biggest meal. YES, I do a lot of things backwards. SO, I munched on apple slices, a piece of organic rice cake with almond butter on top (which is my most favorite "granola" snack. It's super healthy. :) I also had a few more nuts. Pistachios.

I pretty much felt really chill today but the strangest thing happened. At about 1 pm I got this surge of energy. Such a surge, like I've never had before. I started acting all goofy and crazy. (could be I am actually going crazy, I'm not sure yet) and my daughter was like "mom, what's wrong with you??" haha. It didn't last long but it was somethin. Somethin that made me want MORE!!! SO, I am 1/3 of the way thru this cleanse. I am almost half way there.

Wild Rose Cleanse - Day Trios

This is a shitty day. Today I feel like I have the flu. No energy and nauseous. SO, it's WORKING!! yay. All I can think about is FOOD I can't have. Like Pizza and Hot Wings. Ummm... Oh and I am pretty cranky.

Just trying to get through on day 3. I hope tomorrow is a bit better. I find myself questioning, why did I do this? I could just have one piece of chocolate, it wouldn't matter much. OH, but it would! It's a struggle with my mind more than physical. This is the make or break. Am I strong enough mentally to complete this? It's amazing what kind of hold food has on me. I LOVE food.

I didn't have the energy to cook today so I just ate left overs.

Breakfast:

Scrambled Eggs with fresh chives and blueberries on the side. With a cup of black coffee and water.

Lunch:

I had no appetite so I forcefully fed myself carrot sticks and apple slices. Lots of H2O.

Dinner:

Cesar Salad, Salmon and a bit of left over veggies.

For a snack with our movie tonight I had popcorn with butter and a tad of sea salt. I hate popcorn. Who in the hell doesn't like popcorn? Seems to be the only snack I can have though.

One thing I did wrong and realized after. I enjoyed an Earl Grey tea this afternoon and then realized it's black tea and that's a nono. On that note, I really miss my Earl Grey Tea Latte from Starbucks. OH how I would almost kill to have one right now!!!

Here's to tomorrow and one day closer to day 12!

Wild Rose Cleanse-Day Deux

Breakfast: Black coffee and a smoothie. I have a problem. I don't usually eat breakfast. I have no appetite first thing in the morning. I need my coffee, so being that it's acceptable for this program, YA, I"m gonna have it!!

I usually have chocolate VEGA powder in my smoothie with a banana. This is highly recommended. Because, well, it's tasty.

A lame ass smoothie:

Blueberries, Raspberries, Hemp Hearts, Almond Milk and ICE. (what is the heart of a hemp? Well, I'm not really sure but my husband says it's good for me)

LUNCH

Guacamole with crackers. Everything I make is from scratch with all natural ingredients. I use fresh squeezed lemon, fresh garlic etc. The crackers I found at Natures Fare. I was very excited about these because they resemble real crackers but they do not have flour in them. I scoured stores to find something without sugar or flour and this is it! Mary's Organic Crackers. They are tasty too!

DINNER

I was craving a Chicken Cesar Salad (which is a staple dinner in my house already) BUT, I did use the recipe for the "Cesar salad dressing" out of the Wild Rose Cookbook. It's your basic Olive Oil concoction. Again, I made sure to use only fresh ingredients. I used chicken pieces on top and VOILA! It was a really tasty Chicken Cesar Salad.

I had some Green Tea and water throughout the day, which is most important. I also had some pistachios and almonds for a snack. (still wish I could have chocolate!)

Tonight my daughter asked if I could make her waffles (which I also make from scratch) banana waffles to be exact for breakfast tomorrow. Gwad the horror. What to do. That would really test me.

DUDES I am already down 3 pounds...incredable! If I have enough energy tomorrow I might do the P90X Cardio workout. If you haven't checked it out before it's a lot of fun. You get to punch and kick the air! AND I normally don't work out. Oh it's like confession time.

Tonight I found out that their are people who are "fruitiarians". WTF does that mean you might ask? Well, they only eat fruit. Serious. This one dude ate 20 bananas in one sitting. WHY?? Isn't their a saying "eat in moderation" and there are so many different foods for a reason PEOPLE! Food is the spice of life! (unless your on a cleanse)

Wild Rose Cleanse-Kill me now

For some reason I have decided to do this cleanse for the second time. I swore after finishing the first time I would NEVER do it again!

There are many reasons to do it and fewer not to so, here I am. Dreaming about chocolate and it's only 9 in the morning. My breakfast smoothie just isn't the same without my banana and chocolate Vega powder.

It's not only a positive step for my body that I am taking to de-tox and renew but I also look at it as a time to make-over my mind. Over the next 12 days I will read, Re-rejuvenate and re-awaken my creative soul. One that's been quiet for a while now.

Today I sit in my kitchen typing away at my kitchen counter top. My make-shift office. I am currently without a kitchen table because I sold it. It was time for some downsizing. I found a beautiful small round pedestal table and it's now become my project. Which without I'd be wondering what the heck to do with myself. SO, today will be project day. Sanding, painting and re-finishing the new table.

Let the creativity flow!!!

Day Uno

Dinner: Salmon with a rub of (Garlic, Jalapeno Chili seasoning, lemon, cilantro and olive oil, Sauteed in garlic and olive oil, Purple Onion and zucchini and wild brown rice. I didn't really eat much rice because I dislike rice but thought since it's on the list of acceptable foods I'd try it.

Roundeye Diner

I had so much fun at my latest Photoshoot at the Roundeye Diner in Peachland, BC. This place is such a great spot. The drive from West Kelowna was a short 10 minutes. Across the street is a view of the beautiful Lake Okanagan. When you first enter Roundeye the ambiance is warm and classy. The ceilings are adorned with funky chandeliers and chrome. Dinner is by candlelight. Such a romantic cozy spot. My husband and I have been a few times now and have a favorite spot in the corner booth. The menu tickles your tastebuds with dishes that are unique to Roundeye. This isn't your common "i'll have a Chicken Burger with fries" type place. Although you can get a "Chicken phyllo pastry with raspberry sauce". Hands down, Round eye has the best "vegetarian burger" ever! Don't take my word for it. Go check it out!

Delicious concoctions made up by the owners ( a husband/wife team) who also work serving their creations. I have tried almost half the menu and I must say every single thing was delicious! What you would expect and more!

Creativity

You gotta take your creativity flow when it comes to you. I haven't really been in a creative mood for quite some time. I really wanted to be more creative because it's an outlet for me, but I just put it off for about 2 months now. Anyways, last night I was like a junkie who just found her crack. I was super tired and had considered going to bed early even, but I stayed up and got on the computer because I felt like looking at old pictures. One thing led to another and my passion and desire took right over. I was clicking away like a mad woman. Soon, I was editing photo's. Photo's I had taken a while ago. Photo's that I just discovered for the first time. Pictures that are amazing! See, I do that. I'll go out and take a million gazillion pictures and then I'll forget about them. It's like finding little treasures.

So, here's to being creative again. Feeling my spark back for the moment. I'll savour it!

Here's some stuff I came up with last night....

OK, so here's a completely random thought, I just ate "Apple Jack's" and they taste nothing like apples. Don't buy a box just because it's on sale at walmart and because it's a "limited edition" cereal.

The Photo Shoot I just did was so much fun. This family has an amazing energy which shines through as you can see on the photo's. Not one picture was rehearsed. Every picture was natural and full of laughter and smiles.

The Location was Peachland, BC right outside the Bliss Bakery. It was a perfect spot chosen by Katrina (who bought this as a gift for her family for Christmas, along with her brothers). I would love so much to shoot at this location again sometime.

ps-just about the cutest little thing you have ever seen...baby Isley. What a DOLL!

One morning I stopped off at the Westbank Graveyard. I didn't even know we had one. I walked to a vantage point and saw a view so SPECTACULAR! A view of a tree farm. The color's were amazing. Red, Orange, Yellow and green stood out against a back drop of the mountains and Lake Okanagan just as the sun rose out behind the hills. What a great way to start a day!

Inspiration for your day....

When you wake-up and everything seems like it's going wrong. Your coffee spills all over your clean clothes. You have to go change and that makes you late for work. Then your boss yells at you for not doing your job good enough. When your car runs out of gas and your stranded on the side of the road and you look down in your purse and realize your cell phone is sitting at home on the charger.

You are driving along and you peer up into the sky and you see THIS. This amazing light sneaking through the dark clouds and you realize life throws you hard times, BUT once in a while you see the sun rays through those dark clouds and you change your perspective on things that get you down. Life is filled with these special moments and if you go along everyday concentrating on all the bad things you will miss an opportunity to see the light. There is ALWAYS light.

Last Saturday we went out driving. It was a beautiful fall day in Kelowna. We were on our way to the SPCA with our newly adopted puppy to show her off and see if they could tell us what she looked like as a breed as we were still unsure and she just will NOT stop growing!!

I try to bring my camera everywhere with me and on this particular day I did. So, I have been wanting to do some "vintage" family pictures for this year. Right across the street was an old ford pick-up. I thought PERFECT! So, we stopped and snapped a few family pictures right on the spot. They turned out awesome for not planning or preparing. That seems to be the perfect way to do things. Life happens when your busy making plans....is how it goes...or something to that effect. haha

So, here's the finished product with my finishing touches added.

My husband and I went out on our long boards yesterday. I'm gaining more confidence on hills while enjoying a casual ride. Long boarding is so much fun. It reminds me of catching a wave in Maui. The feeling of the wind through your hair as you glide along feels like being free. It's not just a way to get from one place to the next but it's a way to relax and get outside and enjoy your free time.

Here are a few pictures my husband took of me on my long board. I was just being goofy on my board and he got some fantastic shots....I think I may just have landed an assistant!

I absolutely love cars. Old muscle cars. The way they sound when they are coming up the street and you have to turn and look. I love to guess what I'm hearing by the sound of the engine. The curves in a car, the paint, the engine! I am a car enthusiast. The cars that are in the Okanagan are amazing.

Of course, anyone that knows me knows I love Mustangs. I drive a '90 GT convertible. It's pretty much stock, for now. My dream is to race it on the quarter mile one day. When I start modifying it I will be sure to post the progress. For now here are a few cars I saw at the Canada Day show, my car of course and my husbands bikes.

Ladybugs are for good luck. I found one in my kitchen this morning and took some portraits of her. I curiously arranged her on different items and took some snapshots. This was WAY to much fun for a Wednesday and a little bit funny. It was strange to me just how much fun I was having by myself, all alone in my kitchen with this ladybug. I was feeling a bit sentimental when I woke-up and feeling like it was going to be a great day, then I saw her! It was my first day all alone in the house. A DAY. Just to do WHATEVER....Nice to have those once in a while.

My husband saw one today too...must mean good luck!

Anyways...here she is.

This is a good thing for me to see at the end of summer. The days are getting shorter. The Sun is not always out. I can always think of my lil lady bug in the window sill.

Quails Gate Winery

I've been living in the Okanagan now for 3 years. I've driven past this Winery many many times but never went to it. Finally I took my daughter (an aspiring photographer) who is 7 and we checked it out.

Quails Gate Winery is so beautiful. It's a place we will definitely return to. I'll have to go back to do a tasting. Just to walk around the grounds though was a lot of fun and the scenery is breathtaking.

I have wanted a micro lens for such a long time and now i have one and its so much fun to use. It opens up a whole new world to the way things look. I imagine this is what the world looks like to a bug perhaps. You can see the little bits of pollen.

June Bug

Part of living in this beautiful warm climate in British Columbia is seeing the Giant BUGS that I've never seen before being a girl from Alberta.

The other day my daughter was talking about wanting to catch a bug in her bug catcher. I was uninterested as I don't really like bugs. What Adult does really? They are hairy and ugly. The very next day we found this June Beetle. It's actually really cool. We were out in our backyard and heard this hissing noise. Actually our dog Roxy found the June beetle and had it surrounded. We quickly snatched it up into the bug box so we could examine it.

Finding this bug was so cool. Then we decided to do some research on this beetle to find out more. What a cool little summer project.

It always seems to me like Canada Day marks the beginning of a new year. How fast the time passes. Canada day has already come and gone for 2010.

The Westside daze in Westbank, BC are always a 4 day cellebration. With so much to see and do it's easy to see why we stay here around the holiday.

We took in TWO firework shows, a beatles tribute band (which was awesome), a parade and the FREE kids day which included bouncy castles, facepainting and more.

These are some of the perks of living in a small town!

The first night, Canada Day, we watched the fireworks on the westside. They were set off in Kelowna and with the amazing downtown night skyline I was able to get this awesome shot. Even though I didn't have a tripod, I still got a few decent pictures.

Man's Best Friend

Our Animals are just as important as every one of us. They are a part of our families. They are very special and unique in their own way. When I come home from a hard day and I'm not in the best mood my dogs don't care. They show me unconditional love no matter what. Besides their beauty they are such characters!

When one door closes another door opens

So, here's what's been happening in my life. My Camera quit working on me back in the new year. I haven't been able to take any photo's. With Spring time here I have so many new opportunities to get so many awesome shots. I recently had a few of my Art pieces accepted into a Art Gallery in Summerland. That was so exciting!! I also very recently just lost my day job. Besides freaking out here and there trying to figure out what I'm going to do with myself work wise, money wise, I figured this is my chance to spend all the time I want taking Photo's!!! This is it!!! This is my BIG HUGE opportunity to finally spend time at my company and make it successful! SO, I went out and bought a new Nikon. It's the most amazing camera I've ever had my hands on. I also purchased a Micro lens. I have never worked with a micro lens before so I strapped it to my camera body and went out into the yard and snapped away. I was So AMAZED with the pictures. It's very exciting! So, Im feeling better about this loss of a job that I wasn't happy at anyways. I was missing my creative side and now I have it back! I will post some "NEW" pictures up very very soon!!

Here are a few photographs I took when we first moved to the beautiful Okanagan. Mission Hill Winery is located in Westbank, BC. It's views over look their vineyards. They boast a full service restaurant showcasing their selection of original wine. They have a bell tower that chimes and rings across the valley for miles.

Truly a beautiful place to visit if you ever get the chance!

Have you ever looked at something and thought, "that would make a great picture". I am constantly doing that! It's almost as if my eyes were the lens and every time I blinked its like the shutter going off. The image burned in my mind.

What makes a great Artist?

A truly great Artist will make you think about something. And not only think about it but to FEEL it. It's about an idea. An idea that can be born in your mind and out of that something new appears. Something you didn't know was there.

Its not about money or acceptance or prestige but it's about sharing a piece of your soul with someone else. It's truly magic. To sit in quiet. The world stops going by. Everything slows down and you can dream and believe and awaken your spirit.

I love creating Art and sharing it with everyone. I am truly passionate about it. I hope you pass it on.

I'm really proud of this very first photo shoot I did. It was in Edmonton in late summer. I did some engagement photo's of this couple. It was totally fun and they were a blast to capture on film. Check it out!

DETAILS!!! Details are important and I always catch them. Melissa had the funkiest shoes on so I had to get a picture of them.

For our first location we went to an abondoned farmers field. There were a couple of really old farm houses. It was super cool and exciting. The grass was really over grown.

We finally stumbled upon a bee's nest so we were out of there! On to our next location...

Next we were off to Jasper Ave in downtown Edmonton.(Sometimes I miss the big city-I'm a big city girl) I thought it would be cool to get some shots of the couple in all the hussle and bussle of downtown..

This first photo is a picture of my daughter. We went to Peachland to take pictures one day. She had her camera and I had mine. She took that picture of me on the header. Pretty good considering she's 6! Peachland is a quaint little beach town. Lots of history and full of cute little shops.

That was a quote from my husband. That was the sweetest thing I've heard!!! He took a picture of me the other day and I was at a seminar standing next to my mother in law and a friend. He said he finally got a picture of what EXACTLY he sees. I'm posting this and telling this story because this is how I feel about my work, however I almost ALWAYS get the shot that I see thru my eyes. What you see in my photography is exactly how I see the world around me. So, my husband finally got the shot and so here it is...

Another picture I want to include is of my daughter. The picture is shown from my eyes. You get to see how I love to work the angles. The lighting is great, it wasn't photoshopped. It just naturally lit up her face. Very cool.

The Body Shop Training Center

I had the fun opportunity to do a Photo shoot at a brand new Training Center where my husband trains and works called "Body Shop". The owners, Brad and Tracey are starting up their website and needed some Photo's showcasing their brand new shop.

I got a few good shots and then my camera stopped working. Unfortunately I was unable to finish.

I LOVE getting a photo that has a few different things going on in it, especially when it isn't planned. A perfect example is this photo that I took last year of my daughter and my morning coffee. At first I was just trying to capture the cool steam that was coming out of my coffee (which I got by the way) but then I noticed my interesting subject in the background curiously eating her breakfast. What a great photo!

Did you know you can buy a bag of live ladybugs??? Well, you can and we did this past summer. Sounds strange right? We had a ton of aphids and so we went down to our local nursery and bought a bag of ladybugs. They are kept in a fridge and when they are cold they sleep. When they are brought back to room temperature they come alive! It's a pretty cool thing to watch. It was a great photo op for me (since I LOVE ladybugs!) and my daughter was sooo excited. Unfortunately, we couldn't keep them around long enough to feed on the aphids and so sadly, they all flew away.
Maybe we will try again this summer....

A day in the life...

My Absolute favorite thing to do is to SIT and RELAX on the sand at the beach. This was one of our last days at the beach this past summer. I brought my camera (which I have to do more this summer) and tried out some different shots and settings with it. I LOVE playing around with the camera to get unique shots. There are NO rules!

Do you remember back to when you were a kid? Did you go to the beach? Do you remember what the sand felt like between your toes?? OR do you remember staying in the water playing all day and not wanting to get out even though you had to. Even though, you were cold? It didn't seem to matter... Do you remember NOT caring what you looked like in a bikini? Do you remember eating ice cream and getting it all over and NOT caring! Miss those days...what happens??? LIFE..is all too serious. We should try not to loose our child within us. Next time you are at the beach...PLAY. Get your hair wet! Eat ICE CREAM! Feel the sand between your toes. BREATH in the air. Take a moment to stand in the water and watch as the waves hit your legs. Just BE.

Okanagan Lake in the morning

On my way to work one morning I was driving down the mountain and noticed the most AMAZING thing I've ever seen! I was upset that I didn't have my camera with me to capture this gorgeous picturesque scene. I couldn't stop thinking about it. So, my next thought was that I would start bringing my camera around with me EVERYWHERE so I didn't miss another opportunity like that one. A week later I was driving to work again and noticed the same thing so I ran home, grabbed my camera and drove to grab the shot. Here it is!

July 2009 Westbank Fires

I wanted to write about the fires, not so much because I want to remember it but it will be something no one will forget. The panic and destruction the fires brought was surreal. To witness it in person was unbelievable.

Wondering if we had a home to come home to. Wondering how long we would be evacuated. Constantly listening to the news to try to get new information. It was a nightmare. Thanks to all the firefighters who saved our homes!!! We love you...

Show and Shine - July 1st, 2009

I was thrilled to join the Show and Shine in Westbanks Westside daze. It was a HOT beautiful day with tons of hot rods, muscle cars and MUSTANGS!!! Facepainting for the kids, entertainment and those lil mini donuts that you just have to have at an event like this one.

After a long day at the Show and Shine we ate then headed down to the Fair in Westbank followed by fireworks in Peachland.

What a great day!!!

Inspiration

What inspires me? Unique moments like this one. On our recent trip to Maui my daughter was drawing in the sand while a couple behind her seemed to be in there own little world. As I watched the couple, they were standing on the beach hand in hand , laughing, unaware of anything around them. Almost like time stood still. Meanwhile, I was just trying to capture my daughter on camera.

This is what I love the most about taking pictures. Those moments that I can be a part of. I'm almost invisible. If I can catch on camera what I see in my eyes I feel amazement!

I ♥ Coffee

I don't know about you but there's something very special about my morning coffee. I look forward to it the the night before. It's a whole special process. I can set it the night before in my magic dispenser to brew in the morning and wake-up to it's glorious scent that some how gets me out of my warm bed, every time!

My favorite blend is Starbucks Bold. One cream, one pump hazelnut. It has enough kick to get me started everyday and then some. Yes, I'm hooked like every other Canadian...

I recently had the opportunity to do a Photo Shoot for a wonderful family, the Pruitt's. They were such a pleasure to work with! We went to an outdoor location they had chosen. It was a perfect little spot. A beautiful bridge with water falls in the background. It was the perfect setting. After that we continued on to a park right outside their home for some more intimate, candid family shots of the kids playing at the park. I even got some of the dog! I love taking pictures outside and using as much natural light as possible. This was perfect! Thanks Pruitt Family!
